The Hunters’ and Teachers for Africa Report from Namibia

September 1, 2010

Dear friends,

Can you ask your churches to pray. I have been studying Joshua and feel that we need to do battle in prayer over this land. We have been trying to get this land since 2008.

We truly need to expand and stretch out our tent pegs. The building we rent now while large has small classrooms and no playing field. There are always conflicts with the church that owns the building and often misunderstandings. We desperately need our own facility with larger classrooms and adequate playing fields for our students.

Erf 344 Katutura-Windhoek, Namibia is the only piece of open private land in the area. It is about 2 acres and is mainly undeveloped with a few small buildings on one end. Apparently the land is leased by a Mr. Mambo and the former President somehow had something to do with Mr. mambo getting the lease on this land. He was in arrears in his payments of water and electric and has also not developed the land as he stated he would when the city leased him the land. I think he has had the land for some 30 yrs. now. It is supposed to be used as a sports field for the community youth. There is some concern by the local authorities that we will fence it off and charge for use of the land. We will fence it off to protect the development of land and installation of school playground equipment and soccer, basketball and other fields but we will allow public supervised use of the fields for local youth without charge. We have appealed to the City for the right to purchase the land and to rezone the property for institutional use so we can build a school. It is still before the committee whom decides on what they will do with the property. Mr. Mambo has received some $ and has paid off the debts and has asked the City to renew his lease. I think it is a very political situation since the former president, Sam Nujoma was involved. He is still the head of the 2/3rds majority party, SWAPO and remains extremely influential.

If we are going to get this particular piece of property we will do it through prayer. It will have to be God to override the political ties that Mr. Mambo has. He apparently has been promised some new funding to develop this land by a German sports group. It seems that Mr. Mambo gets a cut of all $ for development.

We do not want to enter into any cooperative partnership with Mr. Mambo. I think it would be unwise. We would rather get a clear title to whatever property we buy including Erf 344.

So, please pray and ask all your friends to pray together for a favorable judgement from the City Council. In may ways this is our Jericho.

Also,

Also, please pray for one of our teachers, Ray Gumbo. Ray his wife Eunice and their daughter Nicole are an important part of our team here. Ray and Eunice are from Zimbabwe. As you know the situation in Zimbabwe leaves much to be desired. Ray came to us to attend our teacher training school, The School of Reformation in 2005. For the last 2 years We have been trying to get Ray's study permit changed to a work permit without success. Our applications and appeals have all been denied. Ray must leave Namibia on August 20. Our 2 week Spring break at CHS begins on Aug. 20. They need to get emergency travel documents from the Zimbabwe Embassy so they can leave the country without trouble(like being arrested) because their visas have expired. In Zimbabwe they will need to get new passports. Their passports can be done in 24 hrs but that costs $450.00 USD each. They also need travel and living expenses while there.

We have a Christian Official with one of the Govt. Ministries who's wife used to work at Home Affairs(The Namibia I.N.S.). They have offered to help us with Ray's application for a work permit. Eunice and Nicole will get permits to accompany him if his is approved. We are meeting with this man at noon for lunch on Monday at Community Hope School.

Ray teaches a full load of Math, Bible, Lit., and Geography. We will miss him and need to scramble and readjust all our schedules for the time he is gone. He will need to await his work permit approval in Zimbabwe unless we can get him a 3 month temporary work visa.

I have asked our staff to look at Ray's class schedule and let me know which classes they can take.

So.... Pray for:

1. Erf 344: That the City Council will approve our request to purchase it.
2. Ray's Situation: Visa, Work Permit, Safe travel and provision for new passports.
3. Our staff as we sub for Ray while he is gone.

In His love,

John
